Barcode Printing: Size, Contrast and Verification
Barcodes depend on bar widths: too small, ink spread or low contrast breaks scanning. Size for the scan distance, keep quiet zones on both sides, print black on white with laser/thermal, and test a proof with at least two scanners.
Scale for distance; stay above the printer's minimum resolution.
Keep quiet zones; do not crop the sides.
Prefer black-and-white/matte materials.
Scan the proof and check first-read rate.
FAQ
Why will it not scan?
Too small/dense, low contrast, no quiet zone or a bad check digit.
Can I print on colored backgrounds?
Only with enough contrast; white background and black bars are safest.
